FlukeView 860 for Windows v2.0 - README.TXT file

Thank you for using FlukeView software. Below is some information
that you will want to be aware of:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
Personal Computer with 80386 or higher processor.
Microsoft Windows 3.1
Minimum of 4 MB memory available
Hard Drive
EGA or VGA monitor
Mouse and Mouse Driver (recommended)

STORAGE OF INCOMING DATA
------------------------
When collecting data from your instrument with this software,
it will store the incoming data into a file in the current directory.
When starting the program, be sure the current disk drive has enough
room for this storage file.

CLOSING WINDOWS TO CONSERVE MEMORY USAGE
----------------------------------------
Each data window that is open consumes a portion of available memory. If
too many windows are opened, you run the risk of running out of memory or
receiving a warning that memory is low. For optimal memory usage, it is
best to keep open only the data windows that you are actively using.

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TREND WINDOWS
-------------------------------
Depending on your system, the maximum number of trend windows that can be
opened is 10. If a trend fails to start or there are fields of data missing
from the trend window, try closing some windows before continuing.

CHANGING TREND SETTINGS
-----------------------
Trend settings should be set up on the GMM before starting a trend on
the PC. If you change the trend type while trend data is being collected,
the data collection will stop. Changing the trend interval while trend
data is being collected will not stop data collection, but the graph of
the data will have an inconsistent scale.

COMMUNICATIONS TROUBLESHOOTING
------------------------------
This software will attempt to automatically establish communications
when it is started. If the software does not seem to be connecting
and you wish to bypass this process, then start the program with
the /n switch (example: fv860dos /n). Troubleshoot by checking both
ends of the RS-232 cable connection and verifying what communication
parameters are shown in the instrument setup. After these checks, you
can select the "Options/Communications" menu item in the software to
manually establish a connection. Once a successful connection is made,
the communication settings can be saved by exiting the program.

BAUD RATE LIMITATIONS
---------------------
If you are experiencing frequent communications errors, you may want
to try using a slower baud rate. Some 386 computers may not
be able to operate reliably at the higher 19200 and 9600 baud rates.

GRAPHICS PRINTING
-----------------
Graphics printing is limited to one page in this version of FlukeView 860.

RECOVERING A FILE FROM AN ABNORMAL PROGRAM EXIT
-----------------------------------------------
If you are working on a new unsaved file and the program exits abnormally
due to a system crash, system hang, or power interruption, that file will
be recovered the next time you start the software. A file named ~RECOVER.TMP
will be created if you elect to proceed with the recovery process when
prompted. You should be sure to save the recovery file to a file of
your own at this time to avoid any data loss.

SENDING A WAVEFORM TO GMM MEMORY
--------------------------------
A new feature is available with this software that will require
an upgrade of the Fluke 860 series Graphical Multimeter (GMM)
embedded software. This software can send a waveform from the
FlukeView 860 to one of the three Fluke 860 GMM waveform memory
locations (see FlukeView 860 Users Manual, "Sending a Waveform to
GMM Memory"). In order to use this feature, you need to have
version 1.4 or later of the Fluke 860 GMM embedded software.

To determine which version of Fluke 860 GMM embedded software your
meter has, turn the rotary switch on the Fluke 860 GMM to SETUP.
Wait for 3 seconds until the left soft key label reads "Next
item." Then push the DISPLAY MODE button followed by the soft key
label "Self Test." The Fluke 860 GMM software version will appear
on the display. If it reads Version 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 AND you would
like to use the new feature mentioned above, you will need to have
your Fluke 860 GMM embedded software upgraded. If you do not use
the new feature, then you do not need to upgrade.

To upgrade your embedded software contact your nearest authorized
Fluke Service Center. Upgrade cost is $95.00 until January 1,
1997.
